In a sealed wet-heating circuit, water is contained under pressure. As it warms, its volume increases. An expansion vessel provides space for that change, while a relief device protects against excessive pressure.

The required cold pressure and operating limits come from the system design and user instructions. A familiar number on another boiler is not your target. The gauge reading is different from the pressure difference created by a circulation pump.
