A pay conversation needs a clear request and evidence the decision-maker can assess. A useful opening connects your actual responsibilities and results to the change you want. It cannot guarantee approval.
First separate a discretionary request, where the employer has a choice, from a possible entitlement under your contract or collective agreement. An agreed rise that has not been paid, or a concern about equal pay or discrimination, may need an employment-rights route. Do not treat every pay problem as a test of persuasion.
