A bill can show several different amounts: energy charges for a period, money paid into the account, and the balance left after charges and payments. A higher monthly payment does not, by itself, tell you which input changed.
Start with the document and its dates. Is the number a charge for electricity, a combined gas-and-electricity payment, an estimated annual cost or an account balance? Keep those labels attached while you investigate. The worked examples here are fictional household electricity bills; their rates are not current tariff offers.
