A weed is a plant growing where it conflicts with your intended use. The same self-sown flower may be welcome in a wildlife corner and unwanted among a newly sown crop. Identify what is growing and decide what actually needs control.

Open soil can provide opportunities for seedlings, but weeds also arrive in planted areas and some spread underground. Bare ground is not automatically a problem, and a covered bed is not automatically weed-free.

Plants may support wildlife as well as compete with a crop. That does not make an unidentified plant safe to handle or eat. This lesson teaches a control decision, not foraging identification.
