Secure Your Router and Wi-Fi
Know which password lets people in and which lets them change things, and lock down the hub before you change anything else.
Two passwords, two places
Your network has two different passwords, and you type them in different places. The Wi-Fi password is the one a phone or laptop asks for the first time it joins. The admin password is the one you type to log in to the hub itself: on its settings page in a web browser or, for some hubs and mesh kits, in an app account.
The sticker on the hub may show one or both as they were set at the factory. If anyone has changed them since, the sticker is out of date.
Only change the settings on a network you own or manage; in a shared house, agree changes with whoever looks after it. Before you change anything, note the current setup somewhere private and work out how you’d get back in if a change locks you out, especially if a phone line or alarm runs through the hub.
