Electric Motors and Hybrids

An electric drive changes the route
A battery-electric vehicle (BEV) stores its energy in a large battery and turns its wheels with one or more electric motors. There is no fuel tank, no engine and no gearbox in the usual sense. A hybrid has both an engine and an electric motor, which is why what’s true of one isn’t automatically true of the other.
One boundary before anything else. Electric and hybrid cars carry high-voltage systems that stay charged even when the car is switched off. This course doesn’t cover getting into, isolating, testing or repairing them. The orange colour of most high-voltage cables is a warning, not a guide: a cable or part of any other colour isn’t safe to touch just because it isn’t orange.
